All generations dream of passing a better, more fulfilling
world on to their children. But today, that dream is being
challenged in California by educational funding cutbacks that
threaten all co-curricular activities such as sports, drama,
music, and arts. Schools Plus views these programs as central
to the healthy pursuit of excellence, the need for expression
and development of self-esteem among our young people.
Schools Plus is a partnership of concerned parents, educators, individuals
from our community and sponsoring companies who all come together
with a shared belief that co-curricular activities are not
expendable luxuries in the education of our youth. Rather, enrichment
activities which help to develop qualities of leadership,
teamwork, tolerance, and perseverance that are the foundation
stones of civilized society. By offering our young people
continued opportunities to develop their talents, we help
improve our community and assure a better future for those
who will come after us.
Why Schools Plus Is Necessary
Simply
put, our schools today are appropriately funding lower class
size, including new and retrofitted facilities. As the state's
population grows, public education is under tremendous pressure
to provide for more students even as discretionary schools
budgets shrink. Faced with painfully few alternatives, many
school boards have reluctantly reduced all but the most basic
educational programs. In Santa Rosa, as in many other places,
co-curricular activities must fend for themselves. The primary
focus of Schools Plus is to be a funding mechanism for school
enrichment programs.
How Schools Plus Operates
Schools
Plus exists solely for the benefits of the approximately 30,000
students in 43 Santa Rosa schools and the greater good of
the community. It is a non-profit organization operated by
a volunteer group of concerned parents and citizens who work
out of their homes and offices.
Schools
Plus conducts a telethon each March to raise the funds needed
for enrichment programs such as music, art, sports and drama,
in our 43 Santa Rosa area schools. We need your help NOW

Endowment Funds
Schools
Plus is pleased to have established an endowment for the sustained
financial support of enrichment programs for Santa Rosa students.
A yearly contribution from current fund raising efforts helps
to increase the endowment fund. Please consider this an opportunity

continue to grow for the years to come.
Where
Your Money Goes
Since
1991, Schools Plus has raised nearly $2 million to restore
competitive athletics and enhance drama, music, and art programs
in the forty-three schools of the greater Santa Rosa area
from kindergarten through high school. Without our direct
support, programs would have been dropped. Schools Plus distributes
fund raising revenues to be used at the discretion of a committee
of parents, teachers, and administrators from the schools.
The funds are to be used in areas such as sports, drama, music,
and art according to their priority and need within the guidelines
of our mission.
